Peter Obi promises fight against poverty and insecurity

•Osuntokun replaces Okupe as DG of Campaign Committee

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023, pledged yesterday that, if elected, he will take strong action to combat poverty and insecurity in Nigeria. At a press conference outside the party’s strategy meeting in Abuja, he made the commitment.

A new Nigeria was feasible, according to the former governor of Anambra State, who affirmed the choice of Akin Osuntokun to succeed Dr. Doyin Okupe as director general of the LP’s Presidential Campaign Council.

“Nigerians currently reside in IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps in their nation,” he said. They are therefore internally displaced persons (IDPs) within their own nation, and we have been inundated with unfavorable news.

In this month alone, a young woman who was on her way to work in Jos, Plateau State, was raped and killed, and on Christmas Day, a second woman, a lawyer, was shot and killed in Lagos.

Similar to this, there are numerous murder and kidnapping incidents around the nation. Additionally, there have been numerous attacks on our group. In Kaduna, a woman leader of ours was attacked and killed. The candidate for our party in Imo experienced the same situation. This cannot go on like this.

These are the issues in the nation that need to be resolved as soon as feasible so that Nigerians can feel secure there. By God’s grace, if we are elected to power in 2023, we shall accomplish this.

Regarding youth, Obi noted that Nigerian youths were enthusiastic and talented, and that they could successfully compete with peers around the world. A person cannot be wealthy in a poor environment, the presidential standard-bearer asserted, adding that as long as Nigerians are suffering, sensitive topics must be addressed.

But Nigerians must seize control of their nation and free themselves from oppression, he continued.

“This is due to the fact that the only thing the nation has been successful in doing is putting people into poverty, which also causes agony to Nigerians and makes them unwell. And we do not want that.

Restructuring the structure that led to poverty is what we are attempting to do in terms of structure. Therefore, the volunteers who desire to retake their country make up our structure.

“You all will be the ones driving it, so if you don’t, think of your kids, yourself, and the future. The society we are creating today will improve future for all of us.
