Easter: Allow justice prevail, Buhari urges aggrieved Nigerians
On Friday morning, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret. ), asked Nigerians who were unhappy with the results of the elections on February 25 and March 18 to “wait patiently and allow our legal system to run its course.”
He asked all Nigerians to maintain their faith in the nation for upcoming brighter seasons.
The President added that he had been guided by his promises to keep Nigeria affluent and unified, and he considered it a “rare privilege” to have won reelection in 2015 and 2019.
In his final Easter Day message to the public as president, Buhari made this statement.
The President referred to Easter as a time of year that celebrates the victory of light over darkness, saying, “I join Christians in Nigeria and throughout the world in celebrating Easter, which remembers Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection and foreshadows his triumph over death.
“This time of year serves as a reminder that the Almighty has the power to permanently improve a bad situation.
“I urge all Nigerians to continue to be confident and believe strongly in our country for better seasons ahead,” the president said in reference to Easter. “Easter is about renewed hope and a glorious future.”
He praised Nigerians for their faith in the electoral system that produced the incoming federal and state leaders.
He did, however, draw attention to some angry voters and urged them to let the legal system provide justice.
“While I congratulate the newly elected, I recognize that individuals who are unhappy with the result have the right to seek justice.
I anticipate them to be patient and let our legal system take its course, said Buhari.
Since Nigerians elected him to the position in 2015 and again in 2019, he claimed it has been a rare honour.
He said that his government’s achievements in the areas of security, economy, infrastructure, new oil frontier basins, historic legal reforms, and food sufficiency, among other things, were made possible by Nigerians’ support, which allowed him to keep his promise to keep the nation peaceful, prosperous, and secure.
“Let us do so in love, compassion, kindness, resilience, and forgiveness as we celebrate this season with our families, neighbors, and communities,” he urged.
