Lagos drunk driver knocks down a woman’s husband; she demands justice

The woman and her husband were about to leave her shop and were struck by a commercial bus. Although the latter passed away at the scene, the woman recovered consciousness three days later and learned of the baker’s passing three weeks after the accident.

A woman who only went by the name Taiwo called for justice, alleging that Arinze Okafor, the person who ran her husband over with a truck, was intoxicated.

When Okafor struck them with his bus, the woman’s husband, Hanofi Taofeek, a 35-year-old baker, and his wife were on their way home from the woman’s shop on Ajose Street, Off Amukoko Roundabout.

While Taofeek passed away immediately, his wife Taiwo reportedly lost consciousness and was sent to the Apapa General Hospital.

The distraught woman lamented her husband’s passing and claimed that three weeks after being released from the hospital, she received word of his passing.

Taiwo asserted that Okafor was intoxicated when he operated the car that struck them, and she charged the police with negligence and being indulgent in the case.

The commercial bus driver had been sent to court for prosecution, Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said in response to the complaint.
